Sameer Jagetia

Sameer Jagetia is a strategic CFO who helps founders use financial models to answer the questions that matter most: where to invest, how to grow and how to turn ambitious ideas into sound business decisions.

He has experienced the founder journey firsthand. Sameer acquired and served as President of Redbooks, a leading sales intelligence platform, and later co-founded the machine learning and NLP company Robuzz. He successfully exited both businesses.

Earlier in his career, Sameer was VP of Investments at TCS Capital Management and a member of the Global Communications investment banking group at Salomon Smith Barney. He holds a BS in Economics with a concentration in Finance from the Wharton School and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Sameer lives in New York City with his wife and three kids. When he is not building financial models, he is usually applying the same analytical intensity to fantasy sports or coaching one of his kids’ teams, where the players are considerably less interested in his projections.

How Business Models Show Up in Financial Statements

This session builds four models – SaaS, retail, marketplace, and services – on one shared skeleton, then works through what separates them: what drives revenue, what sits in cost of goods sold, and when cash moves. Each model is then compared against a real public company’s financials to show how the structure translates into actual numbers, and where the simple model and the filing disagree.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  •  Identify the KPIs that matter for each business model, and the ones that don’t carry over
  • Estimate what growth costs in each model – customer acquisition, inventory, or receivables – and when that cash is needed
  • Compare a simple model against a company’s reported financials and explain the gaps
  • Read a company’s business model off its financial statements alone
